About
Cars: Hi-Octane Edition is a community-made modification (mod) for the PC version of Cars: Mater-National Championship. It is continually being updated, which will hopefully continue until it has reached the best quality possible.
The general goal for the project is to combine multiple elements from Cars: The Video Game, Cars: Mater-National Championship and Cars: Race-O-Rama into one product. Characters and tracks from all three games are featured, including ones that weren't playable in their respective games. Though the primary focus of the mod at this point in time is the Arcade Race mode, we hope to eventually edit the mini-games and story mode.
If you find any bugs, don't hesitate to tell us - we'll try our best fix it and release a patch if necessary. To report a bug, visit our bug reporting page and post in the comments. We'll add the bug to the list from that point. If you want to request paint jobs to add to the mod, go to the paint job request page, and if you want to talk about other topics, you should visit in our forum.
History of Cars: Hi-Octane Edition
2012 - August 2015:
In 2012-2013 two people, nick-named Infinikip and Teancum created a community project, named "Cars: Hi-Octane Edition". Later - there where more modders. Such as Schwartz27, CatQuangAnh and CAHoltz, but almost all of these modders either stopped modding, or quit the project, in 2015.
2015 - Present Day:
After almost every modder left the project, it was found by one very talented person, named Vladimir29. He "revived" the project, constantly programming and working on it. Because of this, the project earned more popularity, and people started to work on this project again! New modders include Codename470, Collin Joe, Trackmaniamatt489, Yoshiman716, and many others!

Version 1.9.2.2
The final version of 1.9.2.2 was released on September 13th, 2017 and there was a lot of new content! Such as the unused mode Time Trial restored, around 30 new paint jobs, around 16 new songs, more texture improvements, more road races such as Interstate 40 and 6 new relay races! Plus some more minor bugs fixes.

To install it, replace the DataPC folder in C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/Cars Mater-National (back it up somewhere first) with the one you get with the download. (If you don't have Steam folder - just skip it and go to your game folder.
Version 1.9.2.3
Version 1.9.2.3 was released on July 20th, 2018. It includes such updates as models ported from PlayStation3 version of Cars: Mater-National for the most characters, more Race-O-Rama tracks, less crashes and a lot of minor bug fixes.

A patch for fixing brake lights bug came out September 16, 2018.

What characters are planned for future releases? | All characters from Cars, Mater-National, and Race-O-Rama are now in the game, so we currently do not have plans to add more characters. |
Can characters and tracks from Cars 2 or Cars 3: Driven to Win be added? | No, it is impossible to add content from Cars 2 or Cars 3, as they have a completely different engine than the THQ games, and the files are not compatitble. |
Why do characters from Race-o-Rama not have animations? | Animations in Race-o-Rama were designed differently, and they are not compatible with animation sets from the first two games. |
Why do some characters not have voice? | The game only allows for a maximum of 80 character dialogue sets, and we currently have not found a way around that. |
Why are the McQueen alts from Race-O-Rama not included? | The McQueen alts consist of two separate models -- one for the body, and one for the tires. Mater-National can only assign one model to a character, so we could only have one or the other. However, they are still included in the mod, but are disabled. You can edit EventInfo.dat if you wish to try them out. |
What tracks are planned for future releases? | Two new tracks have been completed recently, Doc's Lesson: Powerslide and Interstate 40. They are releasing in the upcoming final version of 1.9.2.2. |
What about the other tracks from Cars: Race-o-Rama? | Most tracks in Race-o-Rama are set up differently than in the first two games. A couple of the point-to-point events are still in text format, but once converted, they don't run very well in Mater-National. |
What new paintjobs will be added? | Fortunately, there is no limit on how many paint jobs a character can have, so the possibilities are endless! |
Are there plans to edit the story mode? | As of now, there are no plans to make edits to the course of the campaign, but there may be smaller changes like more cars driving around in the hub worlds, and different opponents during events. Additional events CAN be added to the story mode, but the process is quite difficult, and work has not started on that as of yet. |
Can you expand the hub worlds to open up areas like the nature preserve or Willy's Butte? | No, areas like the nature preserve and Willy's Butte are actually separate scenes from the hub worlds, and no "complete" version of Radiator Springs, Ornament Valley, or Tailfin Pass exists. |
What will version 2.0 be like? | Ideally, v2.0 will be the first build to feature everything we've planned and envisioned since day one. The mod will hopefully continue to be updated beyond that with stuff like paintjobs, but all of the possible characters and tracks will be included in 2.0. |
When will 2.0 be released? | Unfortunately, since there is still a lot of work to be done, we cannot give an estimate as to when it will actually come to light. |
